The Right Way to Use Hair Conditioner and Hair Mask

The Right Way to Use Hair Conditioner and Hair Mask

Good hair does not only depend on the shampoo you use. What you apply after shampoo matters just as much, especially if your hair tends to feel dry, frizzy, dull, or less smooth after washing.

This is where many routines get confusing. Should you use hair conditioner every time? Should a hair mask replace it? Do you need both, or only one?

The answer depends on what your hair needs that day.

Hair conditioner is your regular smoothing step after shampoo. It helps soften the hair, reduce tangles, and keep the lengths manageable after every wash. A hair mask is your treatment step. It gives your hair a richer dose of nourishment and is used in place of hair conditioner when your hair needs more softness, shine, strength, or bounce.

At Fayre, we have two hair masks for different levels of care: our Deep Conditioning Treatment Mask for regular nourishment every two to three days, and Caviar & Glow Hair Mask for a richer reset when your hair needs more intensive care.

The key is not to use everything at once. It is knowing when to maintain, when to nourish, and when to reset.

Hair Conditioner Is for Regular Maintenance

Hair conditioner is made for regular use after shampoo. Since shampoo focuses on cleansing the scalp and hair, hair conditioner helps bring softness and manageability back to the lengths.

It smooths the hair surface, reduces tangles, and makes the hair easier to comb through. This is especially important for the mid-lengths and ends, where dryness, frizz, and roughness tend to show up first.

Hair conditioner usually works quickly and can be rinsed off after a short while. It is the step you use on most wash days to keep your hair feeling soft, comfortable, and easier to style.

Think of the hair conditioner as your maintenance step. It helps keep your hair in good condition from wash to wash, so your lengths do not feel dry, tangled, or difficult to manage after cleansing.

Hair Masks Are for Deeper Treatment

A hair mask is richer than hair conditioner and is designed to stay on the hair slightly longer. This gives the lengths more time to receive nourishment and care.

Instead of using it after hair conditioner, use your hair mask in place of hair conditioner. After shampooing, apply the mask from the mid-lengths to ends, leave it on, then rinse thoroughly.

We usually recommend using a hair mask every two to three days as part of your regular routine. This helps keep the hair consistently nourished, especially if your hair tends to feel dry, frizzy, dull, or less smooth after washing.

Hair masks are also helpful if your hair is frequently exposed to heat styling, colouring, bleaching, swimming, or air-conditioning. These can make the hair feel rougher, drier, or less bouncy over time.

The simplest way to understand the difference is this: hair conditioner maintains softness, while a hair mask gives the hair a deeper treatment boost.

Deep Conditioning Treatment Mask: Your Regular Nourishment Step

Our Deep Conditioning Treatment Mask is the mask to use regularly, around every two to three days.

It is designed to hydrate, rejuvenate, and revitalise the hair, helping the strands feel softer, smoother, and healthier-looking. This is the mask to reach for when your hair feels dry, frizzy, slightly rough, or harder to manage after washing.

Use it after shampoo, in place of hair conditioner. Apply from the mid-lengths onwards, focusing on the areas that feel drier or more tangled. Leave it on for around five minutes, then rinse thoroughly. For a more pampering treatment, you can wrap your hair with a warm towel while the mask is on.

This is your regular nourishment mask. It keeps the hair feeling cared for throughout the week, so your lengths feel smoother, softer, and easier to manage between washes.

Caviar & Glow Hair Mask: Your Richer Hair Reset

Caviar & Glow Hair Mask is the richer reset treatment in the range.

Infused with caviar extract, it is designed to give the hair a more intensive boost of hydration, repair, strength, and shine. This is the mask to reach for when your hair feels very dry, dull, frizzy, rough, or tired from bleaching, colouring, swimming, travel, or heat styling.

Even if you are already using hair conditioner and the Deep Conditioning Treatment Mask regularly, Caviar & Glow can still be used as a deeper reset once a week or once every two weeks.

For very dry or damaged hair, you can use it more frequently, depending on what your hair needs.

After using Caviar & Glow, the goal is not just softer hair. It is hair that feels healthier, smoother, shinier, and more alive, with a natural bounce you can see and feel.

How to Use Them Together

A simple routine can look like this:

Most wash days:
Shampoo + hair conditioner

Every two to three days:
Shampoo + Deep Conditioning Treatment Mask, in place of hair conditioner

Once a week or once every two weeks:
Shampoo + Caviar & Glow Hair Mask, in place of hair conditioner

If your hair is very dry, frizzy, colour-treated, bleached, or frequently heat-styled, you can use hair masks more often. If your hair is fine or gets weighed down easily, keep hair conditioner as your regular step and rotate in the masks when your lengths need more care.

The main rule is simple: choose based on what your hair needs that day. You do not need to layer hair conditioner and hair mask in the same wash unless your hair truly needs extra care.

Know When to Maintain, Nourish, and Reset

A good routine is not about using more products. It is about using the right step at the right time.

Use hair conditioner when your hair needs regular softness and manageability after shampoo. Use the Deep Conditioning Treatment Mask every two to three days when your hair needs consistent nourishment. Use Caviar & Glow when your hair needs a richer reset, especially after heat styling, colouring, bleaching, swimming, or whenever your hair feels rough, dull, or less bouncy.

When you understand the difference, your routine becomes much easier to build. Hair conditioner maintains, Deep Conditioning Treatment Mask nourishes, and Caviar & Glow resets.

Together, they help your hair stay soft, smooth, shiny, and full of life, from one wash day to the next.
